Bienvenue à Paris

We made it! Twenty-two hours after leaving Perth, we arrived in gay Paris, passed through immigration without question and headed to our new home. Les Recollets looks exactly like the images on the website! Surprising that.

We walked from Gare de Nord in -3 degrees and BAM! There it was! I was worried we’d have difficulties finding it but not so. It stuck out like a beautiful thumb. We met the people in charge of the place and signed some papers before discovering they had put us in a bigger room and were charging us more for it. Without telling us. Basically it came down to us paying less for a room that was smaller and didn’t have a mezzanine or paying 100 Euro per month more for a room that is 7 square metres bigger and does have a mezzanine. And when you’re living with an aspiring rock star you need space to separate. So we took the larger room. I’m already pleased about this decision. I will put photos up soon.

We didn’t leave our apartment until 5pm and headed in the bloody cold weather to Sacre Coeur. Holy moly it was cold. My nose was running, my hands almost fell off (lucky I brought my cozy gloves with me) and every single bone in my body was saying ‘ow.’ Sacre Coeur didn’t disappoint – we got our nutella crepes and walked to the top of the stairs to look at our new city.

Ahhh Paris... So lovely and grey.

So far I’ve been a bit up and down about this moving to Paris thing. I think I need to make our apartment more ‘ours’ and settle in a bit. Today will involve a lot of shopping for groceries and socks. My feet don’t like me for not covering them in wool. I’d better look after them. Right now, we’re off to the boulangerie to buy a baguette and some croissants for breakfast. Mmmmm… :) REAL French bread! Now that’s something to get excited about.
