A Trip to the Market

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

I have made my first unnecessary and whimsical purchase of my stay in Paris. We have just returned home from the Marche aux Puces (flea markets) which is a collection of second hand antique markets in the north of Paris. There was so much great stuff – particularly interesting pieces of furniture that I really wanted to buy but that looked a bit hard to carry home on the metro. So instead I bought this:

Boules anyone?

A boules set from the 50s (I think.) The lady told me but numbers take me a while to translate in my head. Pretty cool, me thinks. They’re not super heavy like your average boule. I’ve probably been ripped off but I like them. They’re pretty AND will come in handy in summer.

We have a new family member! His name is Seb and he is a mini-four! He arrived by courier this morning and is oh so lovely. He will bake and roast and grill and re-heat for us! I love Seb.

Watch people buy books at the Book Depository’s live view. I’m one of those people who will look at your bookshelf if you invite me into your house, so I could sit and watch what books people are buying for hours… And yes, I did just buy a Stephen Fry autobiography and Yann Martel’s latest book. HOORAY!

Melbourne Styles

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

I got dressed this morning in one of my Melbourne purchases – a giant, comfy jumper-dress with an embroidered tree on the front. I found it in a Design A Space store – wonderful retail shops that Australian designers can hire shelves and hanging space in to sell their wares. A fantastic concept that I wish would come to Perth.

This dress is a Gyegi design, a Melbourne based designer whose clothes are a great mix between cutesy Korean and simpler western styles. I checked out the Gyegi website to see what else is on offer and am now back in saving mode so that I can make some more purchases.

Must Develop Self Control

So I clearly am addicted to online shopping. I must now admit to a very off-the-cuff purchase I made simply because I saw a bargain. Yes, I have now official purchased a Catch of the Day and I’m not entirely sure why…

Catch of the day

It was a bargain!

I have never previously bought sunglasses without trying them on first, but when a pair of $49 glasses are on sale for $14 and they don’t have any branding OR bling on them, how could I say no?

Do they suit me?

They’re a bit plasticy and I can see why my current sunglasses cost about 15 times as much, but what a deal!

P.S. Catch of the Day currently has a Catchathon with over 200 products on sale. I dare you…

Just Call Me Captain Planet

What can I say? I care about our environment. That’s why I feel a-okay about just having spent a little too much money on Elroy Apparel clothes. I stumbled across them and fell instantly in love. So much so, I had to go downstairs, into the cold, grab my purse and buy some things. Their clothes are made from organic, sustainable products and look quite beautiful (in the pictures anyway). Fingers crossed I haven’t just wasted a whole lot of money but I’ll be sure to let you know when my new coat arrives.

This will be me in 7-21 days. Except my cheeks will be naturally flushed due to excess excitement.
